DSG-Canusa
DSG-Canusa

DSG-Canusa

One of the world’s largest manufacturers of heat-shrinkable tubing and products.

Company development history:

1972 – through the merger of two companies: Arenz Metalbau GmbH – a developer and manufacturer of industrial equipment for plastics processing (extruders, coextruders, extrusion lines, other technological equipment) and the trading company DSG Schrumpfschlauch GmbH, a new company was formed specializing in the production of heat-shrinkable tubing and materials under the name DSG. The main distinguishing feature of the new company was the availability of its own equipment for the production of heat-shrinkable materials, as well as a single research center with the ability to develop new polymer compositions and technologies for their processing. The official name of the company became DSG Schrumpfschlauch GmbH. In the same year, the DERAY trademark was registered, indicating that the heat-shrinkable tube, the polymer composition from which it is made, and the processing technology were developed in the research center of DSG Schrumpfschlauch GmbH in Maikenheim, Germany.

1992 – DSG Schrumpfschlauch GmbH opens a plant in the Polish city of Człuchów. Most of the manual operations were transferred to the new plant from Germany, blowing lines were installed, and heat shrink tubes were developed taking into account not only the requirements of the current (at that time) standards of the CMEA countries, but also in accordance with the norms in force in Western Europe.

The attractive price and the best characteristics for this class of heat shrinkable tubes allowed to win long-term, loyal customers in a wide variety of industries and formed a long-term positive image of DSG and the companies representing DSG in the markets of Eastern European countries, as companies focused on the real needs and demands of customers.

1998 – DSG became part of the Canadian holding ShawCor, and by merging its subsidiary Canusa-EMI, which also produced heat-shrinkable materials, with DSG, a new company DSG-Canusa was created. Thus, the new company DSG-Canusa includes three plants, in Canada (Toronto), in Germany (Maicenheim), in Poland (Człuchów), each of the plants has a strictly defined specialization in terms of product types.

2009 – Closure of the plant in Poland, opening of production in China.

2013-2014 – Construction and opening of a new production, office and warehouse site near Bonn is planned. The new production facilities will increase the number of extruders and increase the production volume of heat-shrinkable materials several times.

The company DSG-Canusa has two research and development centers:

  • in Germany (Rheinbach) – development and production of products under the DERAY® trademark
  • in Canada (Toronto) – development and production of products under the CANUSA® brand name
