Die cutting is a label manufacturing process used to cut various materials into specific shapes using a specialized machine known as a die.
Glossary
dielectric strength
Dielectric strength is a measure of a material’s electrical permeability as an insulator. Dielectric strength is defined as the maximum voltage required to create an electrical breakdown through a material and is expressed in volts per unit thickness (mils or microns). A higher the dielectric strength of a material shows a better quality of insulator.
direct thermal printing
Direct thermal printing is a printing method that does not use ink, ribbons or toner. Instead, the image is formed solely through heat activation. The print head heats the surface of the label material, which is coated with a special coating. This coating reacts to heat by turning black.
double-sided tape
Double-sided tape – adhesive tape without a front side, put between two backings.
dpi
DPI is an abbreviation for Dots Per Inch. A print resolution characteristic used for printed text or images. The more dots per inch, the higher the resolution.
